Summer is here, and the girls from The WellHouse Fit welcomed her with open arms. Friday, June 21st marked the official first day of Summer and we celebrated it with fun, sparkle, fairy wings, flower crowns, and great company. But, what exactly is this first day of Summer, this Summer Solstice...?
In ancient China, the summer solstice was observed by a ceremony to celebrate the Earth, femininity, and the "yin" forces. At Stonehenge, it's believed that ancient humans used the June Solstice as a way to organize their calendars. And in some European countries like Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, people dance around Maypoles, have massive bonfires, and decorate their homes with greenery, flower garlands, and tree branches.
The June solstice is often associated with change, nature, and new beginnings! To us, that sounds like a New Year's all over again and gives the excuse to make a fresh new start. So if you blew your first six months of 2019, you get a second chance to be reborn, and this time it's not freezing cold outside! Oh, and it's also International Yoga Day - the day of health, harmony, and peace - so it fits right in!
The WellHouse Fit is in all the circles guys. So of course we wanted to take part in such a powerful and positive message that's displayed across the universe, but with our glow and sparkle added. When we think of summer the first thing that comes to our minds is glowing bronzed skin, healthy, happy bodies, and the late Hugh Hefner's famous Midsummer Night's Dream party with The Girls Next Door. Take out the nearly naked people and voila, we nailed it. Add in a little more of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and less of boob tassels, and we're on point. We got to be in the warmth of the sun taking in all that beautiful Mother Nature has to offer all while wearing a flower crown and doing sun salutations with our best mates on the yoga mat.
We had such a wonderful time taking to the outdoors to truly celebrate a fresh start. To feel the warmth of the sun kiss our skin as we were challenged on our yoga mats with a Pilates/Yoga fusion class. (again, we're in all the circles and love it) We felt the good vibes while we laid still with mother earth, and then bounced our foot to the beat of Lana Del Ray's new cover of Doin' Time by Sublime. Our friends from Organix Juice Bar, Beautycounter, and Athleta helped celebrate the solstice as well and it was so much fun!
We'll see you in a year!
xoxo,
The WellHouse Fit girls
